Titanium Fasteners | Metalworking Ferralloy, Inc.

With so many different types of materials and forms to choose from, knowing what’s best for your metalworking needs can get confusing. With experience in the metalworking industry since 1984, Ferralloy, Inc. can help you decide which raw material and form will be the most beneficial for your specific needs. To help you get started, we’re going to explain a popular metalworking component: titanium. Specifically, titanium fasteners. Keep reading to learn what titanium is, why it’s used, and common titanium fastener applications.

What is Titanium?

Titanium (Ti) is a very common element. In fact, it’s the 4th most abundant metallic element on earth. Titanium metal is brittle when cold. At higher temperatures, it’s capable of being hammered into thin sheets and being drawn into thin wires. Chemically, titanium tends to be quite unreactive. It resists attacks by acids, chlorine, and other corrosive agents. Titanium’s characteristics make it the metal of choice for many diverse applications.

Why are Titanium Fasteners Used?

Titanium is used because it’s physical and chemical properties enable it to be a great all-around material to produce metalworking components. Specifically, titanium fasteners are strong, light, and rustproof. Titanium fasteners are long lasting and low maintenance. Titanium also weighs less than steel, yet is just as strong. This makes it a great way to reduce the weight off an assembly. Titanium also isn’t toxic so it won’t poison any humans or animals. Lastly, titanium is used because it reduces heat transfers, which can have significant benefits for components.

What Are Titanium Fastener Applications?

Titanium fasteners can be found in a wide range of industries. These include aerospace, industrial, chemical processing, marine, medical, sporting, and consumer goods. The most popular being aerospace. In fact, about 65 percent of all titanium sold is used in aerospace applications.

No matter your industry or application, Ferralloy, Inc. can supply you with the highest quality titanium fasteners on time and competitively priced. As industry leaders, we can also help you with a wide range of metalworking products if titanium isn’t what you’re looking for. Contact Ferralloy, Inc. today!

Inconel Alloys | Uses and Characteristics

With all the different applications that metal is used, different characteristics are needed for each use. The wide array of metals available to be manufactured into the component or part needed for a project allows companies to get the metal that has all of their specifications in order to serve their purpose in the most effective way. One such metal that many industries use is Inconel alloys. What is it? Why is it used? Keep reading to find out!

Inconel alloys have many applications because of its unique properties

What are Inconel Alloys?

This is a metal from the nickel chromium family. Inconel is considered a super alloy and special metals with specific applications. It has several characteristics that make is a desirable metal. Inconel alloys are resistant to corrosion which makes it suitable for some extreme environments. It is also resistant to oxidation and can withstand high temperatures. When it is exposed to heat, Inconel forms a layer to protect the surface from heat and other damage. It is not only heat resistant, but maintains its strength when heated. Its high temperature strength is thanks to solid solution strengthening or precipitation strengthening, depending on the alloy variety. This material is also resistant to pressure which makes it perfect for extreme applications.

What are Inconel Alloy Applications?

Due to all of these characteristics, Inconel alloys can be used for a wide variety of applications, including sea-water applications. The properties of Inconel alloys make it perfect for propeller blades, submarine quick disconnect fittings, submarine auxiliary propulsion motors, steal-line bellows and more.  It is also widely used in the aerospace field for aircraft ducting systems, engine exhaust systems, hydraulic line tubing and heat-exchanger tubing in environmental control systems.

Whatever your application may be, Ferralloy Inc can supply you with the highest quality metal components! We are industry leaders, providing you with parts at competitive prices and in quick turnaround time. Inconel is just one of the many metals we supply and work with, so give us a call at 440-250-1900 or visit our foundry online today!

Titanium Components | Fasteners | Tubing

Titanium has a huge number of uses and common applications, a lot that most people may not be completely familiar with. Titanium components like fasteners and tubing are important for many industrial applications, but why are titanium alloys used versus other metals? What makes titanium components a great option for industrial and other applications?

Titanium Characteristics

Titanium Inconel Tubing

What makes titanium alloys an important part of the metalworking industry? It has many useful and effective characteristics. Although steel is one of the strongest metals, titanium matches the strength of steel, but it is lighter. Titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio of any structural metal. A very strong and light weight material has a lot of uses in several different industries. Titanium can also withstand high temperatures and pressure. These characteristics make titanium a highly desirable metal because it can be used in a wide variety of situations and products undergoing a range of processes. What are some of the most common titanium alloy applications?

Titanium Fasteners

Titanium components, like fasteners, are mainly used in aircrafts. An aircraft needs to withstand a lot of pressure and still be light. Titanium is also corrosion resistant and good high-temperature performance, which are also important features in aerospace components. Titanium fasteners have other applications as well. In the aerospace industry, however, they are a highly important component.

Titanium Tubing

Because of the high resistivity to corrosion and high temperature, it is a perfect material for many different components. Titanium tubing can be used in either aerospace components or marine components. Deep sea drilling components, marine parts or at desalination plants, titanium tubing can come in handing in a variety of different situations.

Whether it be titanium fasteners, titanium tubing, or any other titanium needs, contact Ferralloy Inc today! We offer high quality products at competitive costs so that your metalworking needs are met and so is your bottom line. Ferralloy, Inc. contributes to the Triborough Bridge

Ferralloy Inc. delivered the first shipment of investment castings made from a galvanized steel to a contractor performing work on the Triborough Bridge rebuild project in New York City. 54,000 investment cast washers will be used to replace the existing parts which are critical components to its design and construction.
The Triborough Bridge opened on July 11, 1936 and currently carries approximately 200,000 vehicles per day between Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx. In 1997 a long-term $550,000,000 program to rehabilitate the bridge began and is scheduled for completion in 2009.
