A casting is a type of manufacturing process that many different industries use. The process involves pouring a liquid material into a mold that exhibits the desired shape and size of the final part. Once the liquid material turns to solid form, it is broken out of the mold to complete the casting process. Companies usually use castings to create shapes that are too complex for other methods.
There are many different types of castings. These include investment casting, sand casting, die casting, and centrifugal casting. Today we are going to discuss centrifugal casting.
Centrifugal casting is a method of casting to produce parts that are cylindrical in shape. It is one of the best techniques for making thin-walled cylinders. Parts of this method are cast with iron, steel, stainless steel, glass, and alloys of aluminum, copper, and nickel. Some of the most common parts produced from this method of casting are pipes, flywheels and cylinder liners. The biggest benefit of using centrifugal castings is that it is one of the only methods that allows you to easily and efficiently cast a shape with rotational symmetry. Although these shapes can be cast by other means, it is much more difficult to do so without centrifugal casting.
If you think that centrifugal castings are what you need for your next project, Ferralloy, Inc. can help. As part of our broad selection of casting capabilities, we offer centrifugal castings with exceptional mechanical properties. We can provide centrifugal casting components that measure from 3.0” to 48.0” in diameter x 144.0” in length with wall thickness in the 3/16 to 2.0 range. We work with many different metals and metal alloys, ranging from exotics to high-strength, high-temperature materials, and we are confident that our products, knowledge, and experience in the industry will allow us to meet the challenges of your next project.
