The Rolled Ring Production Method

Rolled rings are produced using a process called rolled ring forging. Here is a brief overview of this production process:

  1. The chosen material is measured and sized based on its weight. It is then rounded and upset to ensure it has great structural integrity and grain flow.
  2. The piece is punched and pierced to form a donut shape. This completed preform is now ready to be placed on the ring roll.
  3. Once the preform is on the ring role, the workpiece will continue to get shaped due to the idler roll applying pressure on preform against the drive roll.
  4. As pressure is continuously applied to the workpiece, the rolled ring will increase in size. Simultaneously, there are axial controls limiting the height during ring rolling in order to control the part’s height.
  5. Once the desired size and shape is achieved, the process is done and the rolled ring is complete.
